Google and energy developer Intersect announced construction of the Meitner Energy Center in Texas on June 4, 2026. The project will place a new Google data center alongside new energy generation, bringing the two online together under a co-location model.
Google says the dedicated clean power will help meet the facility's demand while reducing the need for additional supply on the local grid. That describes a plan to add generation alongside computing capacity; it does not establish that the campus will operate independently of the grid.
Water use is another part of the design. Google says the data center will use air cooling to limit consumption. The announcement does not specify a generation mix, a megawatt capacity, or a commissioning date, so the scale and delivery schedule remain open.
Once operational, the facility is intended to join Google's global network supporting services such as Search, Gmail, Maps, and Google Cloud. Google also projects thousands of regional jobs, without separating construction employment from permanent positions in the announcement.
The disclosed milestone is the start of construction, with power generation and data center delivery planned together.
