Meta has agreed to lease a planned 168 MW artificial intelligence data center from Reliance Industries in Jamnagar, Gujarat, establishing the company’s first AI-enabled data center footprint in India. Under the agreement, Reliance will construct the built-to-suit facility while Meta leases the initial 168 MW capacity, with options to scale.
Meta stated that bringing AI infrastructure closer to India supports its local product delivery and global infrastructure scaling. Under the terms of the agreement, Meta will cover the full cost of the power and water required to operate the site. Reliance is developing the facility using desalinated seawater for cooling and power backed by renewable sources, alongside Meta's regional connectivity investments such as the Project Waterworth subsea cable system.
To support its operational power demands and regional emissions targets, Meta also disclosed separate power purchase agreements totaling 925 MW with two Indian renewable energy developers:
- CleanMax: 837 MW of new solar and wind projects in Rajasthan and Karnataka, raising Meta’s cumulative announced procurement with the developer to over 900 MW.
- Fourth Partner Energy: 88 MW of new solar and wind generation across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.
The Jamnagar agreement represents an infrastructure commitment rather than immediate operating compute. Meta's announcement did not give a commissioning date for the Jamnagar facility.
